The Miser and The Magpie

A Magpie stole gold from a Miser who said the Magpie should die for stealing. Magpie said the Miser is more guilty for secreting, not using, the gold. Wealth not used is wealth wasted.

The Eagle, The Jackdaw, and The Magpie

A Jackdaw and Magpie vied for importance at the Eagle’s court. Asked which took precedence, the Eagle said that the greater fool would be. Only fools try to be self-important.

The Peacock and The Magpie

The Birds wanted a king and the Peacock applied. He was almost elected due to his beauty but a Magpie asked practical questions. Peacock failed. Kings must be suited for the job and not just a vain pretender.
