A Fox reviled a Lion in a cage. The Lion made it clear that it was chance that brought him there and not the Fox.
Chance sometimes rules.

Townsend version
A fox saw a Lion confined in a cage, and standing near him, bitterly reviled him. The Lion said to the Fox, “It is not thou who revilest me; but this mischance which has befallen me.”

Leo Inclusus et Vulpes
Vulpes, prope leonem inclusum stans, multis eum lacerabat contumeliis. Leo respondet, “Tu quidem nulla me iniuria afficis, sed adversa quam nunc experior fortuna.”
